Derek Caulfield is a Texan artist based out of El Paso. He focuses on sculpture and woodworking. With a BFA in Sculpture from Western State University of Colorado and a MFA in Sculpture from New Mexico State University. He is a Professor of Art at the University of Texas, El Paso. Where he continues his exploration in art and mastery of craftsmanship & technique.

Caulfield’s sculptural work is broken into two series, with plenty of overlapping elements. Caulfield’s Stellation series concentrates on the divine proportion or golden ratio through aperiodic tessellation and translational geometry. This body of work shows the beautiful complexities of repetition through geometry.

Caulfield’s newest body of work is called Space Race to the Gods. In this series Caulfield plays in the Cold War timeline between the 1950s - 1990s. He is creating NASA and CCCP space crafts that sought to discover celestial gods in the cosmos.

Caulfield is also a furniture maker. Focusing primarily in the Mid Century Modern style. But, he has been know to branch into other styles from Shaker to Rustic.
